Can I use my new Trane AC unit as a heat pump? It is a Trane X14 installed for AC. Can it be used to warm the air in winter without modification?
I'm not familiar with this particular unit true, but I install geo thermal systems and get warm in the winter requires a reversing valve that reverses the flow in the system and refridgerant valve.It expansion of a highly customized valve and should be designed to ask if their goal Trane unit includes a reversing valve or it can not be installed after the unit is made and it will not work for your destination
Not unless it was designed for this purpose. Yes, a heat pump is just an AC unit with freon loop inverted but for this you need a reversing valve in the unit outside so that the cold freon freon goes outside and warm place inside . Usually better if the camera is designed this way instead of trying to change its design.
