I bought one and I like it but I wondered what that meant.

This is to help regulate the heat to your specific hair type. It is not too hot but hot enough. I do not know if I would totally trust that. Irons can be very damaging and drying. Turn down a bit so it's not on the highest setting, unless you have ethnic hair. Whatever you do always use a leave in conditioner and a thermal protector too.
