Dermatological AdvicePosted on February 16, 2010. NYC girl with limited resources in need of advice and answers about skin hypopigmentation.? For about six or seven years I have been developing light spots on my body. The spots occur on both sides in the same places. My forearms, underarms, neck and breasts are the sites of this condition. The color of the spots is tanish, and very apparent on my skin brown, but they are not white or completely devoid of melanin as in cases of vitiligo. It causes me much grief, humiliation, insecurity and confusion. Intimacy is difficult because the plates occur on my breasts. I wonder what it might be, what may have caused it, and of course, how to treat stains. Even if your answer is not a medical standpoint, how can I still find my trust? I suggest you consult your local dermatologist, because there are several conditions that lead to hypopigmentation. Many of these genetic factors, while others are not. And treatment (if possible) will depend on what the diagnosis is real. As I'm sure you know, the light spots are caused by an area where there is less concentration of melanocytes. Why are not working is actually anyones guess, but with your history, it is likely genetic. I am not aware of any medications that can stimulate these little buggers into more action.
